Dartford turned in an improved performance on Saturday at Tonbridge and would have come away with a hard-earned point apart from a five-minute spell in the second half when they conceded two goals. The game was played in a strong wind with heavy rain making an already sodden pitch very difficult to play on.

Dartford had the first opportunity to open the scoring but after seven minutes, a glancing header from Dave Scott went just wide following a free kick from Lee Jones. Almost immediately, Steve Williams, in the Dartford goal saved well from a header Paul Bates.

Dartford's best effort of the half came after 36 minutes when a shot from Ian Ross, newly signed from Ashford, was blocked and Chris Arnold's follow up header was turned round the post for a corner by Joe Radford.

Tonbridge did not cause too many problems for the Darts, although Williams had to punch clear following two corners in the final minutes of the half.

After 51 minutes, Williams saved at the feet of Wade Falana. Nine minutes later, a through ball from Danny Evans put through Jones but although he managed to cross, the ball was just out of reach of Nick Barnes.

After 64 minutes, the home side took the lead when Bates played in substitute Roy Godden who slid the ball passed Williams. Three minutes later, Radford tried to punch away a free kick from Jones and although the ball only went a few feet he managed to fall on the ball to make the save.

In the 69th minute, The home side secured maximum points when a cross looped over Williams and Falana, unmarked at the far post had the simple task of scoring from close range.

Dartford's misery was completed eight minutes from time when Tom Adlington was dismissed following comments made to one of the referee's assistants.

Dartford: Williams, Adlington, Evans, Ross, Scott, Roberts, Barnes, Guiver, Arnold, Jones and Holbrook (McTaggart 75 mins). Subs Not Used - Nicholson and Cole.

Attendance 332.
