Dartford had to again come from behind to secure their second league win of the season and in doing so achieved a league double over St Leonards.

The Darts dominated early proceedings but it was the home side who gave the Darts a scare after 20 minutes. A deep cross from the right by Peter Baker was knocked back across goal by Danny Fletcher and Mark Fox crashed a volley against the Dartford crossbar from eight yards out.

Seven minutes later, Dartford did go a goal down through a defensive error. There seemed no danger when Danny Evans took a throw in to Steve Williams but the Dartford goalkeeper was robbed by Carlton Chattilier who had the simple task of putting the ball into an unguarded net.

However the Darts struck back after 35 minutes. Mal Pointer played a ball through the St Leonards defence and Lee Guiver avoided the offside trap to cross from the left for Chris Arnold to shoot home from close range.

Dartford had several other opportunities to add to their score before the break. Following a corner from the right, the ball fell to Guiver and although his shot went across a crowded goalmouth, nobody could apply the finishing touch. Shortly afterwards, Guiver again beat the offside trap but although he rounded goalkeeper, Graham Bannertyne, he took the ball too wide and the St Leonards keeper recovered to make the save.

The Sussex side opened the second half brightly and Williams made up for his earlier gaffe with two fine saves in the space of two minutes, firstly he got down low to hold a fierce shot from Fox and then had to go full length to save from Fletcher.

After 51 minutes, Dartford thought they had taken the lead when Nick Barnes crashed a left foot shot against the underside of the crossbar but the referee's Assistant was not up with play and did not allow the goal to stand, although Bannertyne later admitted that the ball had crossed the line.

On 84 minutes, Arnold met a cross from Evans and his shot on the turn was blocked by Bannertyne and spun away for a corner. From the corner, Simon Roberts rose above the home defence to meet Lee Jones' inswinging corner and Arnold finished off his glancing header from close range.

Dartford: Williams, Adlington, Evans, Scott, L. Morrish, Roberts, Barnes, Guiver, Arnold, Jones and Pointer. Subs not used: S. Johns, Usherwood and Cole.

Attendance 162.
