Dartford got 2001 off to a great start when they extended their unbeaten run to seven at Sittingbourne on Monday. They got off to the perfect start in the third minute of the game when Sittingbourne's reserve goalkeeper, Lee Taylor spilled a free kick from Lee Jones and Chris Arnold was on hand to score from close range. After 29 minutes, Dartford were unlucky not to go two up when Glenn McTaggart's shot was deflected onto the crossbar and over for a corner. However, the Darts did increase their lead after 36 minutes when a looping cross from Ian Ross held up in the wind and when the Sittingbourne defence failed to clear the ball, McTaggart fired home from eight yards out. Although Sittingbourne pulled a goal back after 41 minutes when Matt Russell capitalised on some slack marking to score from six yards out, Dartford finished the half strongly when Shane Holbrook's shot from the edge of the penalty rebounded off the inside of a post and was cleared. In the 62nd minute the Darts went further ahead when Arnold scored his 15th goal of the season following a good exchange of passes between Simon Roberts and McTaggart. The home side pulled a goal back five minutes later when Russell added his second following a cross from Corey Griffin. But any hopes that the home side might snatch a draw disappeared after 70 minutes when Ross was on hand at the back post to tap home an effort from Mark Greatorex. After 83 minutes, a pass from Ross found Arnold in space on the left. Rather than go for goal himself, he unselfishly squared the ball to striking partner McTaggart who sidefooted home into an empty net. Arnold had two further opportunities to complete his hat trick but on both occasions was thwarted by Taylor. Dartford: Williams, Adlington, McTaggart, (Guiver 86mins), Scott, L. Morrish (Pointer 65mins), Roberts, Greatorex, Ross (Cole 86mins), Arnold, Jones and Holbrook. Attendance 319.
