Dartford came within two minutes of recording their second home league victory this season, but Newport scrambled an equaliser right at the death on Wednesday night. The first half produced few chances at either end although Steve Williams in the Dartford goal made the best save of the half when he saved from Steve Riley's header following a long throw from Karl Lis. However, Dartford took the lead within 30 seconds of the start of the second half when a cross from Lee Jones was met by the Newport captain John Price, but under pressure from Lee Guiver, he headed the ball into his own net. After 70 minutes, Guiver came close to adding to the tally, after a mazy run and a shot which had Colin Mathews scrambling low to his right to push wide for a corner. Shortly afterwards, Chris Arnold lashed a right footed shot through a crowd of players from ten yards out into the net but the referee's assistant was flagging for another player in an offside position and the goal was ruled out. With only a short time remaining, the visitors equalised when following a goalmouth scramble, Steve Leigh bundled the ball home from close range. Dartford: Williams, Adlington, Evans, Pointer, L. Morrish, Roberts, Barnes (Cole 86 mins), Guiver, Arnold, Jones and Holbrook. Subs Not Used - Usherwood and McTaggart. Attendance 136.
