After last Tuesday's victory at Chertsey in the F.A. Cup, Dartford were back in League action on Saturday for their first ever meeting with newly promoted, Histon.

The visitors started well and forced three corners early on but the Darts had the first real chance to open the scoring after eight minutes. Nick Barnes swung a corner in from the left and Luke Morrish headed goalwards only for Roscoe Hipperson to kick the ball off the goaline to safety.

For the remainder of the half, the visitors created the better chances and both Neil Kennedy and David Toombs shot wide. After 29 minutes, Dartford received a let off when a shot from close range by Andrew Jeffrey only hit a post.

Five minutes into the second half, Dave Scott made a crucial sliding tackle to prevent Histon's Benny Murray from scoring after Marc Brown, deputising in goal for the suspended Steve Williams, had miskicked a clearance outside of his area.

However, it was Dartford who took the lead after 57 minutes. Adam Morrish was brought down by Adrian Cambridge and the Histon defender received a yellow card for the foul. From the resulting free kick, the ball was played short to Barnes who crashed a shot in off a post from 25 yards out.

Three minutes later, Histon's goalkeeper, Paul Barber raced out of his area to clear a ball but the clearance fell to Barnes who looped a header over the goalkeeper but Cambridge had covered his stranded keeper and cleared the ball for a corner.

However, the visitors clinched the points with two goals in a seven-minute spell. Firstly substitute Shaun Harrington squared for fellow substitute Neil Andrews to easily score from close range after 73 minutes. Then Kennedy headed home unmarked from six yards out after the Darts defence failed to clear the ball after a speculative cross.

Dartford: Brown, Arnold, Evans, Scott, L. Morrish, Roberts, Barnes, Guiver (Usherwood 62 mins), A. Morrish, Jones and Holbrook. Subs not used: S. Johns and Nash.

Attendance 182.
