Deal's last cup appearance was at Wembley last May, when they won the F.A. Vase but with almost a completely different team, they proved no match for Dartford, as the Darts eased into the First Qualifying Round of this year's F.A. Cup competition.

As early as the fourth minute, Dartford could have taken the lead when the visiting goalkeeper, Marc Smith spilled the ball after a collision with one of his own defenders. Although Lee Guiver pounced on the loose ball and netted, the goal was ruled out as he was in an offside position.

Deal had a couple of opportunities themselves to take the lead and acting captain, Tom Adlington was in the right place to clear the ball off the goaline, following a shot from Andy Ward after 16 minutes. The Darts were unlucky not to go ahead after 21 minutes when Paul Wilson headed against the crossbar from ten yards out and when the ball rebounded to him, he again headed goalwards but this time, Smith was on hand to make the save.

Dartford did take the lead and scored two goals in the final three minutes of the first half. After 42 minutes, Lee Guiver did good work down the left before crossing for Chris Arnold to side foot home a shot from eight yards out. Two minutes later, A through ball from debutant, Dave Scott played Guiver in beating the Deal offside trap and the diminutive forward coolly lobbed Smith from 20 yards.

Three minutes into the second half, Deal pulled a goal back when an inswinging corner from Leon Ingram eluded everybody and entered the Darts net untouched. After 65 minutes, Guiver restored Dartford's two-goal lead when he fired home from ten yards out after the visiting defence failed to clear a ball.

From then on Dartford had the better chances. Both Adlington and Simon Roberts saw drives from outside the penalty area go just over the crossbar and Smith saved with his feet following a shot from substitute Richard Usherwood.

Dartford: Williams, Adlington, Scott, Pointer, P. Johns, Roberts, Barnes (Cole 86 mins), Guiver, Arnold (Usherwood 78 mins), Jones and Wilson. (A. Morrish 70 mins).

Attendance 231.
