Dartford overcame their Ryman League opposition in Tuesday night's F.A. Cup replay at Chertsey with two goals from midfielder Simon Roberts in the opening 15 minutes of the match. The Darts got off to a dream start when they opened the scoring in the opening minute of the game. Following a cross from the right from Nick Barnes, Paul Gower could only hit his clearance to the edge of the penalty area and Roberts picked his spot and shot home into the bottom left hand corner. Seven minutes later the Darts had a further chance to score when a cross from Lee Guiver skidded across the sodden surface and Adam Morrish, starting his first game of the season, just failed to connect as he slid in at the back post. Roberts scored his second goal after 14 minutes when a free kick was whipped in across the goal area from the right by Lee Jones and nobody managed to connect with the ball until Roberts slid in at the back post to net from close range. The Surrey side pressed hard to get back into the game and after 35 minutes, Dave Scott had to concede a corner when making a crucial tackle on Marlon Stewart just as he was about to shoot on goal. From the resulting corner, the same player managed to hit the crossbar from six yards out but the ball went over the bar to safety. Right on half time, Steve Williams had to save with his feet from Kevin Cooper. In the second half, Chertsey strived to get back into the game but although they had quite a few goal attempts, many were way off target and those that were on target were easily dealt with by Williams. Dartford should have scored a third in the dying minutes when A pass from Roberts released Chris Arnold. The young striker drew the goalkeeper out of position before squaring the ball to Adam Morrish but he missed the target from 20 yards out. Dartford now are at home to Abingdon United in the Second Qualifying round of the F.A. Cup on Sunday 1st October 2000. Dartford: Williams, Adlington, Evans, Scott, L. Morrish (P. Johns 87 mins), Roberts, Barnes, Guiver (Arnold 74mins), A. Morrish, Jones and Holbrook (Usherwood 89 mins). Subs not used: Brown and Nash. Attendance 95.
