Chelmsford City went clear at the top of the Dr Martens League when veteran striker Steve Portway notched his 21st goal of the season when they beat Dartford 1-0 for the second time this season.

With the game being hastily rearranged following Monday night's postponement, Dartford were without Simon Roberts, through injury, Mark Greatorex, whose three month loan from Margate was completed on Wednesday and Gavin Rose, on duty with Gravesend. The Darts problems increased after 39 minutes when Tom Adlington was a victim of a horrendous late tackle from Kevin Dobinson for which the Chelmsford player was lucky only to receive a yellow card. However, the Dartford player was stretchered off and took no further part in the game.
